Wheathampstead 2nds batted out a draw against Watford on Saturday.
After being washed out at Chipperfield, Wheathampstead were back at home and put into the field first. Good bowling from Gary Mardle (4-43) and David Tree ensured runs hard to come by and wickets were falling.
Watford were 34-3 at one point but the heat started to get to fielders and Watford, with some inspired batting down the order, posted 236-9.
WCC charged Alistair Sykes and Mardle with the responsibility of starting the run chase and they saw off the new ball. Sykes and Richard Evans added 50 for the third wicket before the opener was removed.
Evans and Timothy Keik batted well and pushed the scoreboard along nicely. However, the run rate was always against WCC and they nobly held on through Eamonn Keane for a losing draw.
