THE mum of cycling’s golden girl Victoria Pendleton, whose equally sporty sister Nicola has had several seasons playing for Harpenden Hockey Club, enjoyed the London 2012 opening ceremony.

Pauline Pendleton, of Hitchin in Herts, joined friends and family of the talented cyclist, who is going for gold in three events at the Olympics, at the “P & G nearest and dearest zone” at Team GB House, Westfield, ahead of last Friday’s ceremony on July 27.

Harpenden Hockey Club’s website shows that Nicola, Victoria’s older sister, has consistently scored goals over several seasons with Harpenden Ladies, and has often been mentioned in the Herts Ad sports pages.

On her website, world and Olympic champion Victoria thanks her mum for, “always supporting me and reminding me that I can only do my best”.

She said it was the “best piece of advice anyone can give”.
