Vees turned on a dominating second-half performance to land their fifth successive win – and all but guarantee fourth place in Herts Middlesex One.

The 36-7 triumph over Hillingdon Abbotts at Cotlandswick puts Vees 11 points clear of their London opponents and with a game in hand.

It took some time for either side to gain the initiative but Sam Allen danced clear on 25 minutes for an unconverted try.

Hillingdon’s response, however, was immediate, going under the posts for a try which was then converted to give them the lead.

But it was the hosts who would turn around at half-time ahead, Dan Barnes storming over for another unconverted score.

The second-half though was a different story.

Vees’ forwards seemed to muscle their way into positive positions at the drop of a hat and Sam Townsend was the first to benefit with a third unconverted score.

With the floodgates opened, Vees ran in another three tries, this time with the extras added.

Ben Russell went over twice and Sam Allen also scored a second before the end.

Verulamians hit the road next Saturday to play their extra game against Barnet Elizabethans.
