VERULAM cyclist Sam Skuce completed the recent Icknield Road Club 12-hour cycling time-trial and set a new personal best.
Skuce covered 216.31 miles, which was an improvement of 17.42 miles over last year. The event was won by Robert Gilmore of Hounslow & District CC who recorded 259.36 miles. Sam was a very creditable 18th.
Twelve-hour time trials - which are a solo effort against the clock - are one of the toughest disciplines in cycling.
The 31 riders set out on a very foggy morning but the weather did improve as the riders followed the course out through North Herts and Bedfordshire.
Sam would like to thank Andy McLennan for driving his support car and Tony Brazier, Harry Broad, and Mike and Jean Daniels for their support and encouragement. See the Verulam Cycling Club website at www.verulamcc.org.uk for more information.
