Verulamians’ winning streak came on a sudden halt on Saturday as London Nigerian proved too good and too organised for the Cotlandswick outfit.

Vees had won nine games on the bounce, propelling them up the Herts/Middlesex 1 table and giving them a glimmer of hope at promotion. That seems all but out of the question now after Saturday’s 31-3 thrashing at the hands of London Nigerian.

The first half was keenly contested with London Nigerians having a strangle hold on lineouts while Vees dominated the scrums. The hosts went into the break 10-3 ahead, with unconverted tries either side of Gareth Walters’ penalty.

After that London Nigerians managed to gain greater territorial possession and snuff out the more infrequent Vees counter-attacks. Still, Vees held firm until a lineout drive in the 60th minute increased the lead to 17-3.

Two line breaks in the final 10 minutes added gloss to the score as London Nigerian picked up a bonus point and left Vees analysing what they need to fix ahead of their trip to Old Actonians in two weeks’ time.
