FA Vase Second Round

Brimsdown Rovers 3 London Colney 2

LONDON Colney exited the FA Vase after being edged out by Spartan South Midlands Premier Division side Brimsdown Rovers on Sunday.

With the match barely a minute old David Parkinson found himself in acres of space on the edge of the box but he rushed his shot and fired wide.

Brimsdown saw an effort ruled out for offside before they opened the scoring in the 10th minute. A long ball forward found Rikki Burbridge who tucked the ball away to put Rovers ahead.

Wasteful finishing stopped Rovers increasing their lead while at the other end Mark Virgo kept out efforts from Paul Danslow and Parkinson.

The visitors eventually drew level in the 30th minute when Parkinson won a free kick and Jowle curled the ball in for Shaun Murphy to head home.

Rovers restored the lead in the dying minutes of the first half with a controversial goal. An apparent foul throw on the left was not pulled up by the referee and with the Blueboys' players standing still waiting for the referee's whistle Burbridge nipped in to score.

Alistair Hill made a couple of saves early in the first half to stop Rovers increasing their lead while Danslow had a header disallowed ffor offside.

With the Blueboys pushing for an equaliser they were hit on the break and found themselves 3-1 down following Jackson Gash's well taken goal.

The visitors should have reduced the deficit immediately when Parkinson teed up Rob Magwood but his shot was saved.

With five minutes remaining the Blueboys made it 3-2. A long Jowle throw found Murphy who stuck out his foot to deflect the ball into the bottom corner.

It was too late for the Blueboys to turn the game around though and they'll now switch their attentions to the league.

Colney recorded a good win over Holmer Green in the Challenge Trophy on Tuesday night running out 2-1 winners.

Holmer Green, who are unbeaten in the league, had already lost to the Blueboys in the Division One Cup and found themselves on the back foot from the off when Frankie Jowle's shot crashed off the bar.

The home side were reduced to 10 men when Jack Dixon was given a second yellow card.

The Blueboys took the lead on the stroke of half time when Josh Humbert released Jowle who slotted home.

Green equalised 12 minutes from time when Ian Robertson headed home Jay Gould's free kick.

With extra time looming Colney nicked a winner. Holmer could only partially clear Jowle's cross and Gary Simmonds fired home to seal the victory.
