Redbourn kept up their unbeaten start to the season – but they were run very close by Wheathampstead.
In the end they came away with a 13-run win to remain top of the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League Division 3A.
Redbourn won the toss and elected to bat but lost Ed Hales and Conor Yorath early.
Adam Pritchard looked to continue his fine form with bat, and took on the anchor role.
He needed to as at the other end Dan Roe, Dan Lennox and Ben Roe all departed
With Simon Osman’s help though the pair were able to rebuild slightly before Pritchard was stumped and Osman went lbw.
It was left to Alex Salter and Callum Moyle to save Redbourn, and so they did, with the two putting on a brilliant 77-run partnership before Moyles’ dismissal for 41.
Salter managed to bring his 50 up with the final ball of the innings, and bring Redbourn onto 177, having been 88-8.
In reply Wheathampstead looked to have the upper hand, needing just 20 from the final four overs.
But Yorath came on, and bowled to his best picking up two wickets to tighten Wheathampstead down and miraculously provide Redbourn with a win.
Centuries from Chris Fleming and Paul Smith helped Redbourn 2nds to a 122-run win over Knebworth Park 3rds in Division 6A.
Fleming was eventually trapped lbw for 100 while Smith ended on 148 not out as Redbourn posted 345-2.
Smith’s innings was sensational, coming off just 74 balls.
Park were never able to get into their stride and eventually finished on 223-7 after their 50 overs.
Ferin Patel (3-40) and Josh Arnold (2-38) were the pick of the bowlers while Ian Pickering top scored for Park with 58.
