IN a dramtic Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division opener, St Albans City FC rescued a point away at Banbury United on Saturday.

And it was Curtis Ujah who turned out to be the hero for the Herts outfit, with an equalising goal in the fifth minute of injury-time at the end of the second period.

Remarkably, with 10 minutes to go of normal time, The Saints were 1-0 up and on course for a nice start to the 2012/13 campaign courtesy of Lewis Toomey’s first league goal for the club in added on time at the end of the first half.

But Banbury levelled things up on 81 minutes when Ricky Johnson got his head on the end of a Adeyinka Talabi cross to beat Nick Jupp in the St Albans goal.

And then things got worse for David Howell’s City side when Johnson scored his second goal with two minutes of normal time to go, getting on the end of a Ben Polk free-kick to make it 2-1 to the hosts.

However in the 95th minute a St Albans free-kick from the right into the penalty area fell to Ujah who slammed the ball past Banbury keeper Matt Finlay to make it 2-2 and secure a share of the spoils.
