St Albans City joint manager Jimmy Gray felt it was two points lost after seeing his side held 1-1 at home by Hayes & Yeading United.

Louie Theophanous’ sixth goal of the season levelled the scores after Elliot Benyon had put the visitors in front.

And despite a few golden opportunities late on, both sides had to settle for a point.

Speaking shortly after the Vanarama National League South clash, Gray said: “It was a game I felt we could win prior to the kick-off.

“The way we started I thought we would go on and get the three points. But for some reason we took our foot off the gas and allowed them back into the game. And from then it was pretty much even-stevens.

“We didn’t do enough to win it, we didn’t have enough quality today and neither did they. So it was probably a fair outcome.

“But I fully expected us to get three points today and it’s two points dropped on our own patch against Hayes and Yeading after the run they’ve been on.”

Gray was clearly delighted with Theophanous’ equaliser but stressed he wants to see goals from all areas of the pitch

“I’m a little bit concerned about where the goals are coming from at the minute,” he admitted. “Theo is carrying the whole burden himself.

“We maybe need to address that because we can’t rely on one player all season to get the goals. We need players chipping in left, right and centre.”

Focus will switch to the FA Cup tie with Deal Town next Saturday and Gray believes that could be a blessing for his side.

He said: “It’s a great opportunity for us to break the shackles. They will be tough opposition but if we can get an early goal it could be one to get the confidence going through the full squad.”
