Jake Awe smashed two club records as St Albans AC emerged victorious in their final Eastern Young Athletes League match of the season at Cambridge on Sunday.

Awe set new best standards for the Westminster Lodge-based club when he won the U15 long jump with a leap of 5.97m and then finished second in the 100m with a time of 11.5secs.

The performances were added to a solid team effort which saw St Albans emerge on top in a six-team meet with 625pts.

They were well clear of runners-up Basildon (558.5) with hosts Cambridge and Coleridge (551.5) third and Herts Phoenix (543) fourth.

Other highlights included Joel McNeill's 40.99m U15 javelin throw, which just fell short of also setting a new club record.

McNeill also won the shot putt (11.51m) and strolled home in the 400m.

Christian Gaddes, Luke Yaxley, Chris Hilton and Jordan Thomas were all big points contributors and the U15 Girls also played a massive part, winning 12 of the 19 events in their section.

Notable efforts here included Naimh Lawson's new personal best of 7.53m, which won the shot putt, and Rowan Seglah's 2.20m clearance in the pole vault.

Alicia Tymon-McKewan also set a new personal best of 13.3secs in the 100m while Abi Wilde won discus, hammer and shot.

Jess Smith took the B string events in both discus and javelin.

In the U17, there were victories for Alix Smith (hammer and shot putt), while Laura Farrar and Catherine Mackintosh won both strings of the 1500m and Daisy Yeomans the B string 800m.

With a slot in the EYAL Final next month already secured, club officials were waiting to find out whether the team victory was enough to secure a place in the A final.
