Harpenden Town 3 London Colney 2

IAIN Turkentine struck the winner as Harpenden Town beat London Colney in the Division One derby clash on Tuesday at Rothamsted Park.

Paul Danslow spurned a chance to open the scoring for the visitors after good work from Jermaine Davey and soon after Harpenden took the lead. Goalkeeper Alistair Hill was at fault as he came out and lost the ball, allowing the alert David Keenleyside to pounce and slot home.

The Blueboys drew level when a good cross from Danny McCafferty was knocked down by Greg Shaw for Danslow to turn and strike a fierce hit past John Gregory in the Harpenden goal.

Harpenden regained the lead on 38 minutes when Ben Dawes swept a long ball into the box which somehow eluded everyone and found the net for 2-1.

Colney battled back to equalise again, five minutes into the second half. McCafferty delivered a dangerous corner and Shaw powered his header high into the net. In the 76th minute, Harpenden took the lead for the third time. A quick free kick from Michael Ross found Richard Taaffe who crossed for Iaian 'Iversen' Turkentine to crack home a low shot for 3-2.

Keenleyside and Chris Gregory went close to adding a fourth for Harpenden before the match ended in controversial circumstances. Colney thought they had snatched a point when Jermaine Davey hooked the ball over Gregory and Danslow headed the ball home. The celebrations were quickly halted though as referee Mr J. Sandlin deemed that Danslow had unfairly used an elbow to shrug off his marker.
