TOWNSEND bowls club opened for business on Sunday with the traditional President V Vice President match.

Club president Stuart Mather was joined by 39 members for what proved an enjoyable afternoon in pleasant weather unusually for this fixture the president's team won by 20 shots in a keenly contested game.

On Saturday, the club host an Open Day to attract people to the game of bowls. New and experienced bowlers are welcome just arrive at the club on Saturday morning with flat shoes equipment and tuition will be provided between 10.30am and 1pm. Townsend are recognised for their excellent facilities in the area at Waverley Road and refreshments will be available on the day.

Townsend are also proud that one of their members Andrew Briden has been given an international trial for England on the Sunday, May 25. Andrew has long been recognised as one of the top bowlers in the county and this is a fitting reward for his performances over the years.
