TOWNSEND’S annual tripartite competition with Mill Hill and Cockfosters Bowls Clubs, which started 15 years ago to commemorate the fact that all three clubs, having been founded in 1919, were some 80 years old, took place at the weekend.

This year Townsend were the hosts, seeking to defend the trophy they won last year at Mill Hill. At the half way stage the results could not have been closer with only a couple of shots between all three clubs.

Slowly, but convincingly, Townsend began to edge ahead until there was a clear gap between the hosts and Mill Hill, with Cockfosters bringing up the rear. The final score was 83 shots to Townsend, against the 70 of Mill Hill, and the 66 of Cockfosters.

Despite allowing their opponents some 6 shots in the final two ends the stars of the show were undoubtedly Richard Morgan, Ted Marriott and Gordon Williamson who triumphed by 31-8.
