CITY of St Albans swimming club (CoSTA) swimmer Tom Hempenstall picked up three gold medals at the ASA East Region Disability Swimming Championships.

The 2009 championships, held at Braintree Swimming Centre, Essex, involve swimmers of all disabilities, with Tom competing as an S14.

Tom started with gold in the 100m Breaststroke with a personal best time and the fastest S14 at the Championships.

This was followed by gold in both the 100m Individual Medley and 100m Backstroke. Finally Tom capped a great championship with a bronze in the 200m freestyle.

Racing in heats against swimmers with all disabilities, matched on entry times, Tom took part in the fastest heats in all his races, and overall came second in the open Men's competition across all disability groups.
