OLD Albanian Under 14s travelled to Ampthill RFC last Sunday for the final game in their Herts & Middlesex league campaign, with a win ensuring promotion to Division One.

OLD Albanian Under 14s travelled to Ampthill RFC last Sunday for the final game in their Herts & Middlesex league campaign, with a win ensuring promotion to Division One.

The game started well with centre Nick Robinson receiving the ball in his own half and threading his way through the Ampthill defence to score under the posts. Forwards Lewis Gaffney, Charlie Deacon and Will Tominey impressed all with their effort and OAs went on to win 41-5. Dominic Crisp broke clear to score a good try and fly half James Loveman notched a hat trick. Further tries by hard-working captain Ed Mellen and the elusive Nick Robinson sealed an impressive performance. The Under 14s B team have worked hard this season and will remain in Division Four.

Old Albanian Under 10s C team are celebrating after winning the Hertfordshire Shield at the Hertfordshire Minis Rugby Festival at the weekend. The team did not concede a try in any of their five matches and defeated Hertford 10-0 in the final. The Hertfordshire Shield trophy was presented to the proud boys by Saracens stalwart Kris Chesney.

Old Albanians fielded five Under 8s teams at the Herts Festival at Tring Rugby Club. The A team (Oranges) cruised through their group and finished the competition runners up to Welwyn. James Jarman scored nine tries, while William Thomson and Hayden Kemp-Robertson each scored eight tries at the event.

OAs dominated the Plate event with both the Red and Green squads making the semi-finals. In the semi-final against Hertford B, the Greens came back bravely from 4-2 to narrowly lose the match 5-4. Finlay Dearsley top-scored for the Greens while Jacob West and Alex Spilling also stood out in a strong team performance.

The OA Reds won their three group games convincingly and then clinched the win with a dramatic try for 4-3 against Hertford B in the final. Anna Liddlelow touched down after a fine run by George Loveman. Scott Tomlins and Alex Powdrell were joint top scorers with six tries each, while James Burgess-Adams and Eddie Greene tagged brilliantly.

Both the Blue and Yellow squads performed well in the Bowl competition. James Strelling was voted the Yellows' player of tournament.

The Blues finished runners-up in the Bowl competition, winning three matches. Top try scorers were Joe Davies, Luke Cavana, Mahendra Leonard and William Newton with four tries each while the top taggers were Alex Stilwell, Louis Lambert and Richard Upton.
