St Albans Ladies’ title challenge in Beds & Herts Women’s Football League Division One ended with a 1-0 defeat at Northwood.
The pair, along with Hemel Hempstead, were the only ones who could clinch the crown but Leanne Jones’s goal on 35 minutes means the west London side are now four points clear of a Lady Saints side who only have one game remaining.
The contest was as close as you would have expected with Kayla Johnson, Georga Knight and Ellie Lovelock all testing Northwood keeper Becky Guillemin.
At the other end Lauren Croucher was equally as busy with a number of fine saves but she could do nothing about the only goal, as Northwood broke quickly from a Saints corner.
St Albans’ final league game is on Sunday, April 28, away to Garston Ladies but their big goal is now the League Cup final against Hemel, with the match being played at Kempston Rovers on Sunday, May 12.
