TIM FRETTER put in a dazzling batting display to see London Colney to victory against bottom of the table Ware.

The skipper put up 100 runs in just 39 balls to highlight an incredible team performance with the bat as Colney scored 281 runs in just 35 overs.

The game was seemingly won before the first ball was bowled after Ware’s skipper chose to insert Colney. On a flat wicket and rapid outfield, the opening pair of Rick Zeiderman and Scott Hadley quickly found their form.

The Ware bowlers had no answer the pair who rocketed along at seven an over, flying past the century partnership before Hadley fell, caught and bowled, for 90 in just the 18th over.

The wicket brought a period of temporary respite as Zeiderman continued to accumulate, whilst first Ray (2) and Pinkham (1) fell at the other end. The fall of Pinkham’s wicket brought captain Tim Fretter to the crease and he launch a breathtaking assault on the Ware bowlers.

Striking the ball cleanly and with immense power, Fretter hit eight sixes on his way to an unbeaten 111 in 49 balls. At the other end Zeiderman carried his bat for 72.

In total the fourth wicket pair added 149 in a little over 11 overs and had given Colney all the time they would need to bowl the visitors out on a very flat wicket.

With little to no movement from the new ball, it took a run out by Simon Fretter to claim the first wicket, Dave Beeston going for two.

The dismissal brought Adam Price to the crease who found the rope regularly as Colney’s seamers looked ineffective.

The introduction of off-spinner Matt Bristow brought the breakthrough as he bowled Tom Parker (24). However, Price and Stuart Hitch navigated Ware away from the danger before the latter was caught off Bristow for 34.

Wickets began to fall and once Price (90) became the ninth batsman to fall, Bristow (5-65) wrapped up the innings three balls later to hand Colney victory.

With Bristow camped in at one end and Fretter rotating his remaining bowling options at the other, wickets began to fall steadily as Price became increasingly becalmed at the other end. Bristow removed Patel, well caught by Tom Shennan at long-on before Hadley completed a fine individual day be removing Orton and McMurdle with his off-spin.

Colney travel to Broxbourne II next week and will be keen to continue their improved form.
