Ollie Pattison is more than ready for his first professional title shot – declaring “now you’re going to see the best of me”.

The London Colney light-heavyweight takes on Slovakia’s Josef Kolodzej over eight rounds at the iconic York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday with the International Challenge Belt up for grabs.

And while it certainly isn’t the most prestigious prize in boxing, for the undefeated Pattison it is the first step to bigger and better things.

He said: “The guy is relatively unknown but he comes with a winning record so he’s certainly not going to be a pushover; he’s going to be a good test.

“But that’s what I want; someone who’s going to want it as much as I am because that’s where you’re going to see the best of me, where I’m able to let my hands go and the skills will show.

“It’s going to push me a little further up the rankings and get me used to fighting for a title.

“It’s a push in the right direction and then we will be moving on to bigger things.

“This is what I am in the sport to do, to win titles and push on.

“Ultimately I want to be world champion so you have to move up the ladder.”

The six-foot three inch southpaw says he is in the best shape of his career with nearly 40 rounds of sparring with Olympic gold medalist and former IBF world champion James DeGale helping him along, an experience that has proven invaluable.

Pattison said: “I’ve learnt a lot of tricks and I’m still learning all the time but the experience I’ve had so far in my career has started to come through as you start to know your own body, when to push it, when to rest.

“I’ve been consistent before but now I’m training all the time I’m getting better and better.

“Sparring with him has shown I can mix it at this level and has given me so much confidence.

“Jim McDonald [DeGale’s trainer] said there’s no reason I can’t be at this level as I’ve got the skills, I just need to have that extra bit of confidence.

“So now it’s all about working hard, training hard and staying consistent.”
