Tabard moved off the bottom and out of the relegation zone after a fine 15-14 victory over Enfield Ignatians.

Rhys Lewis grabbed a try in either half with a penalty and conversion by Jack Reilly securing the four points.

The win lifts the Radlett-based rugby club to 10th, two points clear of Staines and Old Merchant Taylors’ below them.

Tabard started brightly, putting Enfield under early pressure, and were soon in front.

A moment of great vision from Reilly, who had seen the visitors defence had come up flat, allowed him to deliver a perfectly weighted kick, gratefully collected by winger Lewis.

Reilly converted and Tabard almost grabbed a second shortly after.

A great steal on the ground by man-of-the-match Will James set Mark Salteras away. Unfortunately he was just unable to find Tom King with his pass.

Enfield fought back, a penalty in front of the posts somehow hit the upright, but they had better luck with a catch and drive which levelled things up at half-time.

Tabard were again the quicker out of the blocks and retook the lead with an unconverted score.

Salteras showed great tenacity to force a scrum which Tabard took full advantage of, working the ball out to Lewis who out flanked the visitors defence to score in the corner.

Harry Gough had the chance to extend the hosts lead but his kick on the 22 drifted to the left of the posts.

And it looked like Tabard would be punished for that miss when indiscipline allowed Enfield to reach the try line with another converted score.

However Reilly had other ideas and with minutes to go he slotted home the winning kick.

Tabard will hope to continue their good form when they face a crucial clash away to Staines next Saturday.
