Tabard played most of the game in the opposition half and enjoyed more than their fair share of possession but, unusually, their defence proved fragile in the extreme.

Luton found that their counter attacks and strategic use of probing kicks brought them 10 tries and Tabard were left wondering how to get back to winning ways after ending the game on the wrong side of a 62-3 score-line.

Tabard had had a good game away at Luton earlier on and approached this game with a certain amount of confidence. Indeed, from the first scrum it looked as though Tabard were going to have a good game with the front five pushing Luton off their own ball.

Tabard carried on applying pressure but no scores came and then the ball was lost, Luton kicked ahead, gathered and touched down for their first try claimed by centre Ellis. Four minutes later with a Luton scrum in the Tabard half for the first time, the ball was kicked through a gaping hole in the defence and Luton centre Hobbs touched down for an easy try with stand off Talanoa converting.

A penalty by Tabard’s stand off Jack Reilly brought them three points but this was to be the only score with Luton continuing to dot down from counter attacks.

From another scrum full back Mahendran was over, then a short penalty was run, the ball kicked through again and wing Wilmore scored, Wilmore then repeated the feat with another kick ahead, Talanoa converted and this brought up the half time score of 29-3.

The second half was much the same, with Tabard having the possession and territory but falling foul of the Luton counter attacks, this time they ran in five tries from flanker Western, Mahendran, two from flanker Harris and another from Wilmore. Talanoa converted four and Tabard found themselves having the worst defeat for a long time by 62 points to three.

This Saturday Tabard are away to Letchworth.
