Harpenden won the toss and decided to bat first. Young opener Chris Bennett-Baggs, hailed by first team manager Younis Ahmed as a star of the future, showed his skills with a fine 60 from 69 balls. Adam Winchester (25), Mark Winchester (20) and Alex Randall (37) also scored rapidly before last man Joseph Peck smashed 23 not out off just 15 balls. Harpenden closed on 224-9 off 45 overs. James Rosson claimed 4-45 for Saints and Martin Jones and Arafat each claimed two wickets. Hamaad Basir took one.

In reply, Saints started steadily , with openers Kyle Sharpe (38) and Matt Howeson (49) building a solid platform.
