NIGERIAN powerhouse Akanni-Sunday Wasiu has signed a one year deal with Colchester United.

The move ends any hopes of the striker rejoining City where he scored three times in 13 appearances in the Blue Square South last term.

Sunday scored against Woking, Tiptree and Heybridge Swifts in pre-season friendlies for Colchester United and boss Geraint Williams told BBC Essex: "He's scored a goal a game in the three games he's played for us so the lad couldn't have done any more. He's not the finished article but he is a goal threat, physically he can get in behind and has got a decent strike."

Sunday claimed he had turned down offers from Woking and Crewe Alexandra to join League One side Colchester. The striker had considered the prospect of another season at Clarence Park but was keen to make the progression into league football after joining Saints following a spell in Lithuania.
