Abbey CE VA Primary School from St Albans had a very strong performance in the annual Regional Primary School Relay finals, held on in Watford.
Up against schools from across the east and south east of England, the school entered both the freestyle and the mixed stroke relays and competed in the medium schools category.
In the freestyle, the team swam well in the preliminaries and qualified for the final, where the girls came fifth overall. In the mixed stroke, the team was narrowly beaten into second place in the final.
Year 6 girls Florie Geurts and Eilidh Dunwoodie and Jemima Samols, from Year 5, swam in both events. Beth Barker in the mixed stroke and Iorwen Ellis in the freestyle, from years 6 and 5 respectively, completed the teams.
The Abbey swimmers are now waiting to hear which schools have been selected to represent the east region at the National Primary Relay Finals in Sheffield in June.
