St Albans Striders put in a strong showing in Sunday’s Cross Country League race at Willian – their final race of 2016.
With more than 40 from the club taking part in north Hertfordshire, they came away with top three finishes in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Paul Adams finished second overall while Wendy Walsh was the third woman across the line in 103rd place.
Michele Besio (19th), Jez Cox (25th), Cathal Gallagher (29th), Jim King (34th), Gary Warren (40th) and Andy Auld (41st) all finished in the top 50.
Elsewhere, Lucy Stern was the 65th woman home in a time of four hours nine minutes and 14 seconds in the Portsmouth Coastal Waterfront Marathon.
On Saturday morning more than 50 Striders completed the St Albans parkrun at Verulamium Park, with Pablo Plaza Lastras and Helen Cartlidge the second fastest male and female participants.
There were also notable performances from father and son, Tony and Chris Barr, who each recorded significant personal bests, beating their previous times by 32 and 21 seconds respectively.
Striders also took part in eight other parkruns across the country, securing top ten finishes at Brockenhurst, Ellenbrook Fields, Gadebridge, Huddersfield and Woodhouse Moor.
On January 10, the Striders will be taking part in two marathon relays, with the men seeking to complete 26.2 miles in under two hours and the women attempting to eclipse Paula Radcliffe’s world record of two hours 15 minutes 25 seconds.
The relays will be held at the running track at Westminster Lodge from 6.45pm.
