HARPENDEN’S David Clarke did what Steven Gerrard couldn’t do last night – score a penalty in front of the Kop.

The former England Blind football skipper took to the Anfield pitch last night (Monday) with Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler and famous scouse comedian John Bishop to promoted Standard Charter’s Seeing is Believing campaign.

And from 12 yards the 42-year-old, who scored 128 goals in 144 appearances for England, was clinical.

Having seen how it was done Liverpool fans were hoping Gerrard would put his team on top in the 77th minute after Luis Suarez was hauled down in the box by Jonas Olsson but the England captain couldn’t find a way past West Brom’s Ben Foster.

The miss proved costly as Gareth McAuley and Romelu Lukaku scored late goals as West Brom pinched a remarkable victory to end a sequence of six games without a win.
