ST ALBANS hopes of promotion were dented on Saturday with a loss to Oxford Hawks.
The ladies currently sit in fourth place on 25 points and have three games left to catch top side Harleston Magpies, who are sit points ahead. Ipswich and Sevenoaks in second and third respectively have 28 points. Only the top team from each division is granted a play-off place.
St Albans started strongly and pressed the Oxford goal from the off with a clever shot between her legs from Sarah Cullum, which was saved. Oxford were dangerous on the attack and goalie Anthea Oatridge had to make some fine saves until a ball crossed out of her reach was scored by a diving Oxford forward.
St Albans kept attacking and the game went end to end as St Albans tried to equalise, but on a breakaway Oxford scored early in the first half and St Albans, despite a number of short corners, could not convert.
