Theophanous wonder hit clinches fourth win from four for St Albans City

A wonder strike by Louie Theophanous settled another come from behind victory for St Albans City – their fourth straight success.
Eddie Oshodi had put Saints ahead midway through the second period in front of a boisterous Clarence Park.
Charlie MacDonald had earlier struck after 22 minutes to cancel out a Gavin McCallum effort
Theophanous has refound his goalscoring touch as Saints continue to hunt down their relegation rivals.
And his strike lit up a gloomy Easter afternoon.
Picking up the ball on the left side of the area, he arrowed a right foot effort into the top right-hand corner of the net.
It took a few people by surprise with the home support engulfed in a brief moment of silence but erupting in pandemonium.
It was a deserved win on the balance of play and puts Saints level on points with Bath City in the battle to stay up.
Despite the three straight wins, the task facing St Albans is still a tough one and for the first 20 minutes they looked nervy.
The loss of a goal after just over 120 seconds didn’t help.
A ball forward flicked off Ben Martin and was carried away from Tom Bender to the extent he couldn’t get a decent contact with the header.
Jamie Taylor pounced and although Joe Welch saved McCallum slammed home the rebound.
So it was a huge relief to those inside Clarence Park when MacDonald brought parity.
Louie Theophanous had the first effort, with a snapshot from the edge of the area which Lewis Carey got down to save.
But he couldn’t prevent it falling to MacDonald who had the easiest of conversions.
And it led to 10 minutes of pressure which saw some desperate defending from Eastbourne, one such clearance rebounding up off the line onto the bar.
The second half was a cagey affair until Oshodi struck, heading home at the back post from a Lee Chappell long-throw.
It was fitting that Chappell was involved with his set-pieces causing constant problems in the Eastbourne defence.
Theophanous goal finished off the day and sets up a huge derby clash with Hemel Hempstead Town on Easter Monday, 1pm kick-off.
