Taylor playing his way into Saints’ midfield

Matt Taylor may have forced his way into St Albans City’s first-team after impressing the managers in Monday’s Herts Senior Cup win over Cheshunt.
The 19-year-old started in midfield alongside Sam Corcoran in the 5-3 victory having returned to the club after a month on loan at Southern League Premier Division outfit Arlesey Town.
“I was well impressed; his ball retention and movement was excellent,” said joint manager James Gray.
“He looks like he’s had eight, nine, 10 games under his belt, whereas it’s been difficult for him to come off the bench and impress.”
Gray revealed that Rufus Brevett wants to keep Taylor at the Armadillo Stadium for another month but, after an excellent performance against Cheshunt, he wants to keep him at Clarence Park.
“They want to prolong his long for another month but on that showing I think he’s done himself no harm in getting in the squad,” said Gray.
“He’ll have another run out on Wedndesday [in a behind closed doors friendly against Arlesey] and we’ll make a decision. It’s a fine line: do we call them back and they are on the bench or do we keep them out on loan and get more games? I’ve spoen to Matty a lot about it but he’s done himself no harm with tonight’s performance.”
