Archant

Sam Merson fired St Albans City into the first round proper of the FA Cup for the third time in four years.

Merson’s first-half goal was his fifth in three games and enough to see off a plucky Egham Town side – who play their football two levels below the Saints.

The draw takes place tonight (Monday) with City ball number 71.

The previous two occasions have seen St Albans be paired with Mansfield Town at home in 2013 and Grimsby Town away last year.

Photographers Bob Walkley and Leigh Page were at The Runnymeade Stadium on Saturday to capture the action.
