St Albans City stretched their unbeaten run in the Vanarama National League South to six games after a battling 1-1 draw away to East Thurrock United.

Such has been City’s form in the last few weeks that this result almost feels like a step back but this was a valuable point against a hard-working Rocks side and, like the performance at Dartford a few weeks ago, is another sign of the never-say-die belief among the squad.

The Essex side took the lead on 68 minutes through Sam Higgins but Saints hit back seven minutes later through substitute Sam Merson.

It was his ninth goal of the season and eighth in the previous 10 games.

The result keeps City in second place, nine points behind leaders Maidenhead United, although with a game in hand.

Photographers Leigh Page and Bob Walkley captured the action from a gloomy Rookery Hill.

St Albans are back in cup action on Saturday when they travel to Whitehawk in the FA Trophy.
