St Albans City set to host HMS St Albans in charity match

ST ALBANS City FC are to host HMS St Albans in a charity match at Clarence Park.

The Royal Navy ship bearing the City’s name is returning to home shores next weekend and Saints have arranged to play a representative team on Monday, March 19.

Kick-off will be at 7pm, with entry costing £5 for adults and £2 for juniors and senior citizens. City will field a team that will contain some first-team players requiring playing time, as well as reserves and some from the youth team who are enjoying such a successful season.

Proceeds from the night will be shared equally between the Help for Heroes campaign and the Grove House Hospice.

“We are delighted to host this special fixture and to welcome back our servicemen and women to say thank you to them,” said Saints chairman Ian Ridley.

“It should be a good night with two exceptionally worthy causes benefiting.”

HMS St Albans is a Type 23 Royal Navy Frigate based in Portsmouth. The crew will be home for a well-deserved five-day leave following duties in the Gulf.
