St Albans City will be aiming to keep their place in the play-offs with a win on Saturday against St Neots Town at Clarence Park.

City jumped into the top five after Monday’s win over AFC Totton (see online for full report) and had other results go their way the following night, meaning they head into the weekend’s game in fifth spot in the Calor Southern League Premier Division.

In the previous meeting of the teams, at the Cozy Stadium on November 29, St Albans needed a brace of goals from James Kaloczi and a late strike from Jamal Lowe, who was making his debut, to see their way past a spirited St Neots team.

City’s joint manager Graham Golds told the Herts Ad the key to winning the game will be matching St Neots’ physically.

“They’re a big, strong team so, first and foremost, we need to match them in that area,” he said.

“If we can do that then we have the players to unlock the door and win the game.”

St Neots are currently 19th in the table and haven’t won since beating AFC Totton 6-0 on December 21. However, Golds believes their league position is not reflective of the talent they have in the squad.

“St Neots’ new management team of Gary King, Zema Abbey and Nathan Abbey hadn’t been there very long when we played them so they’ll be settled now and they have added more players.

“It’ll be a tough game so we have to be at our best and get out of the traps early because three points would be massive.

“We’re into the top five now so we need to stay there, keep on the coattails of the top three and see how high we can get in the table.”

Saturday’s game kicks off at 3pm.
