Alex Yearwood is a name St Albans City fans should keep an eye out for, says joint manager James Gray.

The striker scored for the Saints’ reserve team in a 9-2 loss against a strong Wealdstone team during the week, and he is being groomed for a spot in the first-team spot in the future.

Gray, who sees Yearwood in training every week, said: “He scores goals for fun. It’s invaluable experience for him to play against first-team players and men; the jump from kids’ to senior football is not easy.

“He’s got amazing talent and he’s got an eye for goal. We’ll bring him on and he could be an asset in a year or two.”

Yearwood is part of St Albans’ plan to nurture young, talent players for the future.

“We’re not trying to win the Capital Football League, we’re trying to develop talented players. We’re trying to get players coming through rather than have to look at the transfer market to strengthen.”
