Despite a new-look line-up St Albans City made it seven games without a win after this 1-0 loss to Truro City.

Issac Vassell grabbed the only goal of the game on the hour as Saints remain rooted to the foot of the Vanarama National League South.

City named their three new signings in the starting line-up. Emmanuel Udoji, who has signed on loan from Bromley, Michael Thalassitis, in temporarily from Concord Rangers, and the former Watford star Al Bangura.

Also missing from the 11 was Jernade Meade, James Comley and Lee Chappell, the captaincy passing to Sam Corcoran.

Speaking at the fans forum on Thursday both Harry Wheeler and director of football Adam Lee had stressed the need for a show of desire.

And spurred on by the new boys, they got it.

Lining up in a 4-3-3 formation Saints flew out of the blocks and put plenty of pressure on their Cornish visitors.

Shots on goal, however, were at a premium for both sides.

It took 28 minutes for City to test Martin Rice in the Truro goal, Louie Theophanous stinging his palms from distance.

And Rice was called into action in the dying moments of the half to deny Corcoran.

Played in by Theophanous’ clever backheel the new skipper chose to dink it over the keeper; Rice stuck out a hand to deny the opening goal.

Truro only had a Dan Green effort which bounced wide to show for their first-half endeavours.

The visitors started much brighter, after the break, getting plenty of possession and territory and pushing St Albans back.

Despite that, the goal came out of nothing.

Vassell turned Ben Martin far too easily on the right side of the box and fired low between the legs of Welch.

And the longer the half wore on it seemed as if it would be enough.

A double substitution with 15 minutes to go signalled a last throw of the dice for Wheeler.

Jack Green and Theophanous both had chances but couldn’t get them on target.

The one positive was results elsewhere went in their favour.
