Defender talks about his move to Staines
ST ALBANS City captain Adam Everitt admitted it was a tough decision to leave the club, having agreed a deal to join Staines Town this week.
The 28-year-old, who had a clean sweep at the club’s end of season awards, ended his Saints’ career last week after 92 appearances and seven goals by agreeing a deal to stay in Conference South next season with Staines.
A versatile and consistent performer throughout his three year spell with the club, Everitt says his decision was based purely on football issues.
“It was a football decision, I want to play in Conference South for as long as I can and it had nothing to do with the club,” Everitt told the Herts Advertiser.
“I think everything that is going on at the club is brilliant but I just want to play at the highest level I can for as long as I can.
“It was a massive decision, because I’ve really enjoyed playing for the club. Everyone I’ve met I’ve got on with and obviously it’s 10 minutes down the road from me so it’s my local club. I had to think hard about it and it took me a long time to make a decision.”
Everitt says he will fondly remember some of the club’s backs-to-the-wall performances during his time at the club and hopes that the Saints can bounce back at the first time of asking.
“We’ve had a couple of great results away from home when we’ve been up against it,” he explained.
“We went down to one of my old clubs, Eastleigh, and only took 12 players and managed to win 1-0. We put in some really good performances under difficult circumstances, when the budget was being cut left, right and centre.
“Personally last season I was pleased with the way I played and to win some awards but obviously we got relegated so that’s not a highlight.
“I hope St Albans can bounce straight back, because it’s a good club and I’ve enjoyed my time there.”
