ST ALBANS City may have to do without Matt Hocking and Inih Effiong for tonight’s (Tuesday) trip to Dorchester Town.
Both players had to be substituted during the first half of Saturday’s 2-0 win over Staines Town after picking up knocks in heavy challenges and City assistant boss Mark Peters believes it will be touch and go whether Effiong will make it, with Hocking almost certainly ruled out.
“Inih took a knock in a heavy tackle but we’re hopeful he’s got a chance for Tuesday,” said Peters on Saturday.
“Matty, I think he thought he’d given a free kick away and he was a little bit slow to deal to the situation and he’s paid a bit of a penalty for that. He took a very heavy tackle and I’d guess he’s done a little bit of ligament damage, hopefully he won’t be out too long but until the swelling goes down and he can have it assessed we’re not going to know the outcome of that.”
Due to a ridiculous fixture compiling, City have been handed their second longest trip of the season on a Tuesday night after a day at work but Peters says that is all part of being a non-league footballer.
“It’s part and parcel of the job,” he said.
“They know it’s going to be some Tuesdays where they are going to have long days. I think it’s more the day after that it takes its toll on you because you’ve played 90 minutes, had a long journey and had less sleep than you are used to.
“They’ve just got to deal with that and take today’s performance into Tuesday because I thought when we went down there before Christmas that they were quite a good side and worked really hard for each other. They scored three on the day and deserved them.”
