Harry Wheeler is looking forward to working with Adam Lee again – after the club announced both would be in new roles until the end of the year.
Wheeler was originally given the job on a caretaker basis in November after the resignation of joint managers Jimmy Gray and Graham Golds.
He kept the post over the busy Christmas period and the club announced last week that he would remain as first team manager until the end of the season.
While the move wasn’t a surprise to many, what did come as a shock was the installation of Lee as Director of Football.
But Wheeler thinks that the appointment of his former boss will be a benefit across the club.
He said: “I worked with him at Potters Bar when he was manager there.
“We have always bounced of each other so he will give me help as well as looking after the recruitment and helping Tom Norman with the budgets.
“Having someone like Adam who has experience of both the football side and the business side makes it a stronger unit.”
He will also continue his role in the academy at Dagenham & Redbridge and said the new Daggers boss, John Still, had given him his blessing.
Wheeler said: “He told me well done and to go for it.
“He’s a big fan of non-league football and he’s interested in how we do.
“It’s good for my experience plus it gives him someone who watches this level week-in, week-out.”
Charlie McDonald became Wheeler’s first official signing as manager when he joined on loan from Boreham Wood.
The Saints boss thinks he will be a major help in avoiding relegation but is not looking to flood the team with new signings.
Wheeler said: “He’s more than just a player, he’s a leader and I think he will work well with Theo [Louie Theophanous].
“If we can get the balance right these players here are still good enough to get us out of trouble.
“But if there’s someone out there who can strengthen it, then we’ll have a look.”
