Danny Green will have to bide his time as he looks for a return to regular first-team action.

The former Harpenden Town captain was the Saints’ first choice defensive midfielder at the start of the season but has seen his role diminish since Charlie Gorman’s arrival from Welling on loan.

And now that Gorman has signed permanently, and Matt Taylor has impressed since returning from loan, Green’s chances could dwindle even further.

“He’s not happy that he’s not playing and I appreciate that - if someone is happy to be on the bench then there’s a problem,” said joint manager James Gray.

“Danny can play anywhere, full-back, holding midfield or further forward, but he’s going to have to bide his time or show up in a game that he goes in ahead of Charlie.”

He added: “This is a squad game; you can’t win with 16 players, you need 20 at this level and he’s in the squad.

“Until he fancies a move elsewhere or wants to keep going, that is the situation.”
