ON-LOAN midfielder Harry Beautyman described Monday night’s draw at high-fliers Chelmsford City as “a step in the right direction”.

The Leyton Orient youngster grabbed his first goal in City colours to put Steve Castle’s side ahead in Essex and although Anthony Cook’s strike 13 minutes from time handed the home side a point, Beautyman felt the result was a good one for the Saints.

“It’s been coming. I think they’ve been unfortunate lately St Albans they’ve been a bit under the cosh,” Beautyman told the Herts Advertiser.

“To be fair I think this is going to be a step in the right direction for us. We were unlucky to get the draw and I think we deserved the win tonight.

“It was all about the effort tonight. We knew we were going to come here and it would be a tough game and we’d have our backs up against the wall but I think we did well tonight and deserved our point.

Castle deployed Beautyman in a more central role than he has previously and the 18-year-old says that’s his natural position.

“I prefer it in the middle,” he revealed.

“To be fair I don’t mind where I play but I do prefer bombing on looking for the goals.

“Steve’s bought me in and we’re working hard. He’s been great to me and I’m happy to be working with him.”

City travel to Welling United looking for only their second win of the league campaign but Beautyman says the side will go there with confidence following Monday night’s result.

“I don’t think we could have had a harder month with the games we’ve got,” he said.

“But I think we’re going to go there with great confidence after a great result tonight.”
