Ben Martin’s first-half header was enough to see St Albans City safely past Southern League Division One Central side Petersfield Town and into the hat for the FA Cup fourth qualifying round on Monday.

The Saints have been struggling in the league in recent weeks, including an embarrassing 6-0 defeat on the south coast against Whitehawk just seven days ago, but they managed to scrape together a decent performance in Hampshire to leave them just one game from the first round proper.

City could potentially land a plum home tie against one of the Vanarama National League sides entering the competition in the next phase.
