St Albans City host Bath City on Saturday at Clarence Park as they look for a return to winning ways.

Saints have won just once in their last 11 games in all competitions, a 3-2 success over Welling United coming two weeks ago.

City held Chelmsford City 1-1 in the National League South on Saturday, but were knocked out of the Herts Charity Cup semi-final 1-0 by Hitchin Town on Tuesday.

Saints boss Ian Allinson knows his side must start picking up wins quickly if they are to improve on their eighth position and return to the play-off places.

“We have got to start turning some of these results into wins because three points are massive at the moment, draws and defeats aren’t going to get us anywhere,” he said.

“We have got a squad here, the squad’s all about playing, if players play poorly we can leave them out and bring other players in.

“That’s down to me now to make sure I try to pick the right side for next week and try to pick up three points.”

A plus for City was that striker Louie Theophanous ended a run of 14 games without a goal as he struck to earn his side a point last weekend.

Of his frontman, Allinson said: “I felt the last couple of weeks he’s getting back into the mould of where he is going to score goals.

“He looks sharper, looks like getting back into the way he was prior to not scoring his goals and hopefully he can kick on now for the rest of the season as he did this time last year.”

In their remaining 13 league matches, City have just three games with teams above them in the table.

Of that Allinson added: “We have got [leaders] Ebbsfleet and [third-placed] Dartford at home now and they’re going to be tough games with the way those two teams are playing at the moment.

“We have still got Hungerford [fourth] away, and apart from that I don’t think there’s anyone else that’s in that top six or seven we have got to play.

“However, it doesn’t matter who we are playing in this league, we have to be better than what we have been over the last four or five weeks.”
