THE U10s won a low scoring game away to Wheathampstead in a match typified by accurate bowling and tight fielding.

St Albans imposed a stranglehold on the Wheathampstead batting with only nine runs coming from the first four overs bowled by Dan Baylis and Harry Price. The bowlers were well supported by good fielding and Joe Moss was reliable behind the stumps.

Two stunning run outs from direct hits by Andrew Ellis and Oliver Lees saw Wheathampstead close on 211- 7. In reply Lees, Price, Ellis and Wheeler batted well as St Albans finished on 241-7.

Despite early wickets from the U10 2nd’s bowlers Louis Johnston and Andrew Ellis, Shenley’s opening pair scored well. Debutant George Thomas bowled accurately as Shenley team closed on 274-2.

Shenley struck with a run-out on the very first ball, and although Marcus Cunnington, Harry Seagrave and Joe Moss scored frequently the run-rate proved to be too great a target and St Albans closed on 245-5 to lose by 29 runs.

The U12s’ encounter with Welwyn Garden City was a great contest between two evenly matched sides. St Albans made 117-7 off their 20 overs – Oliver Mulvaney (25no) and Lewis Figg (13) starred with the bat.

In reply St Albans limited Welwyn to 112-6, winning the match by five runs. Wicket takers were Nathan Thornton (2-8), Alfie Tinkler (1-4), Mulvaney (1-10) and Sam Baksa (2-20).

Despite a promising start, the U14s fell short against Redbourn. With Zach West (3-10) in fine form, and Joshua Hewett (2-7), Craig Reece (1-8) and Matthew Pollard (1-4) also bowling well, St Albans had Redbourn struggling at 53-8, but they recovered to finish on 96-9.

Matthew Ellis then hit a fine 22 but lacked support with only Jacob West (10) also reaching double figures, as St Albans ended on 70 all out.
