ST ALBANS boxer Joe Smyth steps into the spotlight this month.
The red-hot prospect, nicknamed 'Big Stuff' has his seventh professional fight at Watford Colosseum on Sunday, November 29, on a bill that features a British boxing
legend, Danny Williams.
The British heavyweight champion and conqueror of Mike Tyson, tops the bill and that guarantees a bumper crowd and the attendance of the nation's media.
Smyth has already boxed on Sky Sports before - he marked his professional
debut with a points win over Paul Bonson last June - and the 24 year-old
former England amateur captain has gone on to rack up five more wins since
then to climb the light-heavyweight rankings.
He has good memories of the Watford Colosseum having won all three fights he has had there in impressive style. Last year Smyth wiped out Lee Kellett at the venue
inside a round and has since beaten everything put in his way.
He is still waiting to hear who he will face this month in his final fight of 2009 before next year stepping up his charge towards title contention.
Manager Mickey Helliet said: "This time next year, Joe should be in contention to fight for a major title.
"We will be looking to step Joe up to six and eight round fights early next year and then look to make a title fight for him."
Smyth expects to take plenty of support with him to Watford for this month's fight and Helliet said: "Big Stuff's fans really do give him a lift. They create a great atmosphere."
The bill also features British light-heavyweight title contender JJ Ojuederie along with unbeaten hopes Phil Gill, Bobby Gladman and Michael Devine. Tickets are available from 07958 335197.
