The St Albans Bowling Club held its closing day on Sunday.

So many members wanted to play in the last game of the season that the green was set up to play with seven rinks rather than the usual six. The game took the form of a spoon drive with members keeping a record of their own score. The winner was Trevor Ewer, second was Maralyn Pomeroy and Mike Jefferies came third.

A spider was held at the start of the proceedings and all tje money donated was divided equally between the two captain’s charities, Imagine based in Mozambique and Epilepsy Research. The winner of the spider was Eileen Englebright and the runner-up was Phil Macarthur.

The presentation of trophies to all the finalists was made by president Rod Perks. He made a short speech thanking all the committee and volunteers and paid special tribute to John Gardiner, who is such a dedicated member and works so hard for the benefit of members.

Steve Wilson, club captain, presented the Clubman of the Year award to John Bartlett, the honorary secretary of the club, who was genuinely overwhelmed by the presentation.
