JOE Smyth is back in action next month as he steps up his bid for titles in the professional arena.

The St Albans light-heavyweight targets a third straight win as a professional at Watford Town Hall on October 5 on the 'Repeat Or Revenge' bill, topped by home-town fighter JJ Ojuederie defending his Southern Area light-heavyweight title against Joey Vegas.

Smyth has happy memories of the venue having blasted out Lee Kellett inside a round there last month following his debut points win over Paul Bonson in July.

Smyth, aged 23, admits there were plenty of nerves before the clash with Bonson and now aims to show the skills and punching power that took him to the top as an amateur.

The St Albans fighter who works as a carpenter won three national titles and was a regular in England's team before taking a two-year break and then turning professional. He said: "I was nervous before my debut. The Sky Sports cameras were there, I had around 300 supporters with me and I hadn't boxed for a couple of years.

"I was glad to get that fight out of the way and I think I showed what I can really do in my last fight."

Smyth decked Kellett and then overwhelmed him to force the stoppage and says he is planning to take the fast route to the top.

He hopes to box twice more before the end of the year following his four-round fight in Watford. He added: "I would fight every day if I could. I'm going to stay sharp if I'm boxing regularly and it also means I should climb the rankings quicker."

"I'm confident I can get into the top 10 and win titles."

The bill also features heavyweight hopes Matt Legg and Stacy Dunn along with rising star Daley Ojuederie and title contender Ryan Walls.
