A SCHOOL pupil from Harpenden has signed a contract with Luton Town that will see him join the club full-time once he’s finished his studies.

Roundwood School pupil Charlie Smith has signed a contract with the Hatters that will see him join the club in July 2012. Charlie, aged 15, has been with the Hatters since the age of eight and after finishing his GCSE’s will join the club’s scholarship programme.

Charlie said “Becoming a professional footballer has been my ambition since joining the club eight years ago and I am really looking forward to this opportunity”.

Luton’s Youth Development Officer Gregg Broughton added: “Charlie thoroughly deserves this opportunity to progress at the club due to his performances and maturity on and off the pitch. Although this is only another step towards becoming a professional we hope that if Charlie continues to progress over his two-year scholarship he will get the opportunities at first-team level.”
