ST Albans Lawn Tennis Club held the LTA Official Easter Junior Open Grade Three tournament last week.

The finals took place on Friday and Saturday. Hertfordshire player Hope Johnson defeated Celia Fraser to win the 18s-and-under girls event and Elizabeth Ashworth beat Celia in the final of the 16 and under girls. Matthew Pearce beat Daniel Sidaway to win the 18 and under boys and Lewis Whiteley won the 16 and Under boys beating Michael Shipley.

St Albans LTC had 12 club members competing. Joshua Cozens, aged nine, won his first match in the Under 10s boys to crown his tournament debut. Joshua held his nerve superbly to take the match 10-8 in a championship tie break. Sam Jones also won a match in the Under 16s. St Albans coach Martin Taylor said: "This is a grade three tournament so it is a high standard of tennis, mainly players who train five, six or seven times a week. Joshua did absolutely great and Sam Jones also won a round which is really good.
