Slip up cost Sandridge

Herts Senior County League Premier DIvision Sandridge Rovers 0 Whitewebbs 3 ERRANT finishing from Sandridge Rovers cost them the point their play deserved in their home clash with league leaders Whitewebbs on Saturday. Rovers were caught napping in the first minute as Jarrett gave the champions elect a flying start, making it 1-0. Sandridge then began to get going as the clock ticked on to 20 minutes and their enterprising attacking football led to a number of chances. Young midfielder Del Cleary burst through one-on-one but was denied before top gun Chris Wickens crashed an effort off the post. Ryan Denys saw his efforts narrowly miss and, with Whitewebbs under severe pressure, Rovers boss Bob Fowler was disappointed to hear the half time whistle. He said: "I did not want half time to come. We played some of our very best football and the worst thing was half time." Rovers began the second period slowly and were caught again as Whitewebbs doubled the lead, 30 seconds after the restart. Jarrett claimed his second goal and before the end Stewart struck to give the title hopefuls a 3-0 win. Fowler said: "We fell asleep twice and got punished and we have to learn to put that right. The score did not reflect the game because we created more chances than we have ever done before this season. You cannot knock Whitewebbs, they are showing championship form but we are positive and we know we will take our chances in future." The Rovers boss was in upbeat mood despite the result and he praised his side. Fowler said: "Neil Cannon was excellent in midfield but we just didn't take our chances. The players know we have got it in us to win against Whitewebbs. Ryan Denys is hard on himself, because he feels he should have had a hat trick in the game but I think if we had played for another hour we wouldn't have scored. It was one of those days." With Sandridge taking on Hadley on Wednesday, January 25, at Westminster Lodge, and then going to Wormley Rovers on Saturday, Fowler promised his team would attack and show a more ruthless streak. He said: "We have many players that are progressive forward players and there is only one way for this club to play. We have great defenders but we are not a side that defends, we have many players who like to go forward. The result against Whitewebbs has lifted us in a funny way and we know that we will take our chances next time. The pitches don't suit us at the moment because they are very bad, but it is the same for every team." l ST Peter's endured a frustrating Saturday afternoon after arriving at North Mymms only to find the pitch was unplayable. The Saints had asked for a check to be made on the pitch on Saturday morning but they received no news and after reaching the ground, they found out at 1.15pm that the match could not take place. The pitch was so bad that the Saints were frustrated that the referee had not been asked to inspect the pitch earlier in the day. On Saturday St Peter's travel to Loughton and will be hoping that the match survives the weather.
