Potters Bar II 127-10 (37.0) Old Albanian 112-10 (41.3)

OLD Albanian lost at home on Saturday despite a five-wicket haul for the impressive Matt Corran in Division Two.

Potters Bar were inserted after OAs won the toss and the decision looked good as the visitors were struck out for 127 off 37 overs. Corran bowled with pace and aggression to take his five wickets.

The Old Albanians struggled in reply and were left stranded on 112 all out. Aron Jayawardena (21) impressed for OAs on his league debut.

In Division Five, Old Albanian II lost the toss and were inserted on a difficult batting track at Old Haberdashers.

Guyan Rhodes (23) and Tariq Hassan (37) held the innings together and OAs finished on 152.

A heavy shower in between innings took the sting out of the wicket. Kamal Jagatai made an early breakthrough but the Old Haberdashers overseas star batted aggressively and scored a quick 50 from a total of 60 for 1.

Hassan joined the attack and bowled a double wicket maiden in his second over removing of the dangerous opener in the process. The Old Habedashers middle order batted responsibly and reached the total to win on 153-3. OAs need to win at least four of the remaining games if they are to avoid relegation.

The Old Albanian III narrowly missed out on victory for the third time this season when Knebworth Park V visited Woollams on Saturday in Division 11.

After losing the toss the Old Albanian side were asked to bat on a wet wicket. Openers Anthony Perkins (24) and Duncan Taylor (26) put on 50 for the first wicket in tough conditions.

Harshal Wagh batted well for 27 before being bowled by a slower ball and wicket keeper David Burrows was the pick of the batsmen as he bludgeoned his way to 46 from 48 balls with shots all around the wicket. Cut free from the shackles of opening Burrows was able to express himself in his new middle order role and provided the basis upon which the Old Albanian total of 192-8 was built.

In reply, the home side started well and they reduced Knebworth to 14-2. Some wayward bowling and poor fielding enabled the Knebworth batsmen to race to 80 before they lost their next wicket. Hiren Amin (4-25) was introduced to the attack and provided some control and cutting edge.

Rizwan Hamid (3-53) was the pick of the remaining bowlers as he provided good pace on a damp track. The home side had four overs at the final pair but could not make the break through and were left wondering what might have been but for a few drop catches.

The Old Albanians IV saw their strong run came to an abrupt end on Saturday as they suffered a heavy nine wicket loss away to Luton Town & Indians IV.

After losing the toss the Old Albanian side were asked to bat and were reduced to 17-3. Simon Wakeling and Naran Jagatia (22) offered some resistance as the visitors were dismissed for 87.

In reply Luton Town & Indians reached their small target in 19.4 overs and for the loss of only one wicket. Finley Matheson was the pick of the visitors bowling with figures of 1-20.
