FLAMSTEAD bounced back to form with an emphatic win against Kings Langley II in Division Seven on Saturday.

After an emphatic defeat at Old Cholmeleians in their previous outing, Flamstead were inserted by visitors Kings Langley II on a very damp wicket at Friendless Lane.

Flamstead openers Taylor (19) and Oswin (15) took their time on a slow and low wicket which proved difficult to bat on.

The hosts stepped up the pace when the excellent Matt Brown combined with Bradbury (14). Brown led the assault with a fine attacking innings of 81 with 12 fours and one six. He dominated a quick partnership of 43 with Mark Ridley (22 not out) before Flamstead lost three wickets with the score on 151. Ridley then combined with young first team debutant Ben Brownlie for a fine unbeaten stand of 51. Brownlie, aged 14, showed great maturity as he dominated the stand and finished the innings on 31 not out. The highlight for the star, who has progressed through the Colts at Flamstead, was hitting medium pacer Smith for two straight sixes. Flamstead declared after 51 overs as skipper Andy Taylor felt that it could prove difficult to dismiss the visitors on the slow wicket.

Langley were soon in trouble in reply, as 'Twiggy' Rogers opened up with a superb spell of 3-9 off 10 overs. Tim Wilkinson (1-19) also struck and Langley fell to 16-4 off 13 overs. Colt Sam Bray, also making his first team debut, bowled an excellent spell of six overs for just six runs and one wicket.

Spinner Mark Ridley (1-9 off five overs) reduced Langley to 48-6 before Stephen Wright claimed two wickets in his first over.

Langley battled on and from 50-8, Archer and Holroyd grimly defended for 12 overs. Skipper Taylor then produced an inspired bowling change, bringing himself on for his first ever spell in league cricket. With his fifth ball, the captain, bowled Archer and then cleared up the Langley innings with the last wicket. Langley were all out for 56 giving Flamstead a 146 run success.

Flamstead chairman Tim Wilkinson hailed the contribution of young colts Ben Brownlie and Sam Bray. He said: "Ben Brownlie batted extremely well on his debut and showed that he has a promising future while Sam Bray bowled accurately with pace and also has a great future. Much credit for the club's youth policy, must go to Nick Brownlie, the colts manager who has spent hours coaching them. He must have been very pleased to see his colts performing so well."

The win lifted Flamstead to seventh in the table and they visit top two outfit St Albans III on Saturday for an intriguing derby clash.
